CDCP Year-End Update: What's Changing for 2026?
What Is the CDCP?
Launched by the federal government, the Canadian Dental Care Plan provides dental coverage to eligible Canadians who do not have private dental insurance and whose household income falls below specific thresholds. Since its rollout, millions of Canadians have accessed affordable dental care for the first time.
Key Changes Coming in 2026
- Expanded eligibility: The income thresholds are expected to rise, bringing more middle-income families into coverage.
- New covered procedures: Select orthodontic and periodontal services may be added to the approved list.
- Faster direct billing: Clinics registered with Sun Life will benefit from improved claim processing times.
- Increased provider enrollment: The government is actively encouraging more dentists to register as CDCP providers.
What Patients Should Do Now
If you are currently covered under CDCP, schedule any outstanding dental work before December 31 to make use of your 2025 allowances. Benefits do not automatically roll over, so act before the reset.
